In central air-conditioning terminal applications, fan coil units typically employ three-speed thermostats to regulate the speed of AC tap-wound motors, thereby controlling the cooling (or heating) capacity delivered to the indoor space. However, the high, medium, and low speeds of conventional AC motors are determined by the motor winding characteristics and cannot be easily adjusted. By switching to a YAEMP-series control board and replacing the motor with an internal PWM-driven brushless DC motor, the fan coil unit’s airflow rate and static pressure requirements can be met by simply adjusting the dip-switch settings on the control board, allowing for stepwise selection among three speed levels—high, medium, and low—for the EC motor. This enables wide-range, stepped speed regulation of the EC motor. Moreover, thanks to the use of DC inverter technology, this approach delivers higher efficiency and greater energy savings compared with conventional AC motors.
